in episode 1, utena defeated saionji with only a wooden sword, without any help from prince dios (i believe this was the case) as would be observed in later episodes. saionji was using the sword of dios against utena in the duel. i find this to be very impressive on utena's part because saionji was a skilled swordsman. it reminded me of how utena managed to pass through the rose gate without the sword of dios in episode 39, with only bare, bloody hands and a heart overflowing with love for anthy. unlike akio who failed to cut through the gate even with the strongest soul sword, the one pulled out of utena.

to commemorate the 28th year since revolutionary girl utena started airing (02/04/1997), here are some parallels between the first and final episodes of rgu (per chronological order of episode 1):

utena and anthy's hands slipping away from each other's grasp both in the opening and episode 39.

the duelling arena being destroyed as prince dios wakes up in the opening versus the duelling arena being destroyed by the swords of humanity's hatred in episode 39.

I don't love my first post ever being about CR but I just need to talk about episode 2 of Divergence especially the moment where Rei'nia gains her first level because GOD is it cool.

There's something so profoundly meaningful about the moment that the first post divergence cleric, the first divine spell cast in a world that the prime deities have left, where mortals must learn to live without them at all times not being a Cure Wounds, or a Guidance, but Inflict Wounds.

The first act of faith done by a CLERIC isn't healing or some sort of high and mighty banishment, it's her bashing in the head of a strife emperor captain. It's brutal, it's violent, it's dirty.

Because miracles, when they touch the real world get dirty.

There's so many incredible moments for every single character, each one so telling of who they are and the world they are in, but the Rei'nia's level up is a moment that I believe sets the tone for the world that will be. Where divinity isn't to be found in prayer but in action, divinity is in one's own faith, one's own willingness to act upon it.

The gods now can only give you the ability to perform a miracle, but that doesn't mean you won't have to get up, get hurt, get bloody and bash that captain's head in yourself.

I just need everyone not in Chicago to know that we are still going apeshit over Chicago Pope. Like four stores in my neighborhood are putting out more and more new merch. My aunt made me walk to the Jewel to get her a copy of the Sun Times that had "DA POPE" as the headline. Both baseball stadiums consistently have drunk guys dressed as the pope now.
